William G. Hymer, 91 of Westfield, died Monday March 23, 2015, at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. A Professional Engineer, Mr. Hymer was employed by the American Cyanamid Corporation, Wayne NJ, until an injury forced an early retirement. Born in Jerome, AZ, to the late Howard G. and Esther Wanner Hymer, young William and his family eventually settled in Shrewsbury, NJ. He received a degree in mechanical engineering from Newark College of Engineering, now NJIT. He served on munitions ships in the Atlantic War Zone and the Mediterranean War Zone while a member of the US Merchant Marines during World War II. William was a long time member of the F&AM Masonic Lodge, Red Bank, NJ, and the NJ Society of Professional Engineers. He enjoyed building and racing cars, ice boat racing on the Navesink River, refurbishing furniture, and also did consulting work on nuclear submarines. William was the beloved husband of the late Elsie W. Hymer, and father of the late Ralph Hymer. He is survived by his sister: Elizabeth Hymer Dudley. William's life celebration and visitation will be 11:00AM Monday March 30, 2015 at Gray Funeral Directors, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, where his funeral service will follow at 12:00PM Noon.
