William S. Adams, 96, of South Amboy, died Tuesday March 26, 2013 in Cranford Health and Extended Care Center. Born in Perth Amboy, and a graduate of South Amboy High School, Bill was retired from the Volco Copper and Brass Co. Kenilworth, NJ. A veteran of the US Navy during World War II, he was a Navy Frogman (Demolition). Bill was a Platform Diver in the Navy, as well as a Navy Boxer. He coached swims teams during the 1960s and 1970s for the YMCA in Perth Amboy and Parlin. Bill enjoyed ballroom dancing. He was a top competitor and coach in the Harvest Ballroom Dance Competitions in the 1950s. Mr. Adams was an avid horticulturist, growing apples and gardening. He was also a car enthusiast, lending his 1970 Buick Centurion to the movie set of "The Pope of Greenwich Village." Bill was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Link Adams. He is survived by two daughters: Deborah C. Mason and her husband: Patrick of Cranford, NJ, Dawn Adams of VA, two granddaughters: Morgan and Brooke Mason. Bill's Life Celebration will begin at 8:30 AM Thursday March 28, 2013 at Gray Funeral Directors, 12 Springfield Avenue Cranford (www.grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences), where his funeral service will begin at 9:30AM Thursday.
