Walter Yancey Jehovah's Witness and Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather Walter Yancey, born on January 21st, 1936 in Plainfield, New Jersey, died on Thursday May 23rd 2013, at the age of 77, after a prolonged illness, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. Walter resided in Westfield for 52 years and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances R. Yancey, daughter Donna, son Duane (Gwendolyn) , two grandchildren Spenser and Alyssa Yancey, his mother-in-law Lizzie Ramsey, sister-in-law Jean Pernell, two brothers John and Charles Yancey, and two sisters Susie Fields and Mary Briddle (Edward). In addition, he is survived by many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a multitude of spiritual friends, some of whom held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his father John R. Yancey, mother Fannie C. Allen Yancey, sisters Laura Shipley, Clara Page, his twin sister Gladys Cook, and brother Joseph Yancey. Walter served in the U.S. Marine Corp. for six years and was discharged in October 1961. In 1973 Walter dedicated his life to serving Jehovah as a member of the Clark Congregation and looked forward to the day when he would live in the paradise that God has promised. Walter loved talking to people about the earthly paradise hope and could always be found working on many projects including painting, carpentry, and gardening. He also had a passion for camping with his family and friends. A memorial service will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday June 1st at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1324 Woodland Avenue, Plainfield, New Jersey. Arrangements by Gray Funeral Home, Westfield.
