Walter C. Roth, 85, of Cranford, New Jersey passed away on March 16, 2015, at Cranford Health and Extended Care. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Walter lived there 23 years until moving to Cranford in 1955.
He served in the Army of Occupation during World War II in Germany and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Roth was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
He was a manager of two manufacturing departments for Singer Manufacturing Company in Elizabeth New Jersey, until they closed its doors in the 1980âÂÂs. Then, he was employed by Becton Dickinson Company, where he was a senior engineer for vacutainer systems in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, until retiring in January of 1995.
Walter was a member of Horvath-Cushing Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge 4 in Union and the Loyalty Lodge Number 33 for many years. He was very active in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Union, where he served as president of Men in Mission Group, Treasurer of the Sunday School and various other groups.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert, brother, Adam, and sisters, Evelyn and Helen. Mr. Roth was the beloved husband for 54 years to his one and only love, Eleanor (Tomasula) Roth. He was also a devoted father of Gayle Regan and her deceased husband Thomas of Westfield, Gregory Roth and his wife Julie of Lake Como. He was a cherished grandfather of Allaistar, Connor, Andrew and Matthew, as well as the uncle of many nieces and nephew. He will be deeply missed by all.
His hobbies were gardening, fishing, watching World War II movies, but his greatest joy was doing repairs and building things for his family.
Visitation and life celebration will be on Friday March 20, 2015 from 9 am till service time at 11 am in Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue in Cranford. Burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ Go to grayfuneralhomes.com for on line condolences.
