Sue Carol Wood Douglas, 87, died peacefully on March 9, 2015 at Brighton
Gardens in Middletown, NJ, where she resided in recent years. She was born
December 23, 1927 in West Orange, NJ to Fann A. Westerland and Cecil George
Wood. Sue grew up on Staten Island, NY and graduated from Port Richmond High
School. After graduation she attended Pace University and worked for the Nestlé
Company where she met her husband Walter Calvin Douglas.
Sue and Walter lived in Staten Island and attended St. Mary's Episcopal
Church. In 1960, they moved to Westfield, NJ, where they became members of St.
Paul's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the flower guild. Sue was a
member of Echo Lake Country Club for 40 years and a member of the Westfield
Service League. For 10 years Sue and Walter led Girl Scout/Boy Scout troops for
special needs children. They lived in Westfield for 50 years before retiring to
Sarasota, FL in 2010.
Sue was predeceased by her husband of 61 years in 2014, her son, Scott
Wood Douglas, in 1995, and her daughter, Cecily Carol Douglas, in 1989. She is
survived by her daughter, Robyn Douglas Kilpatrick and husband Brian of Red Bank,
NJ, and three granddaughters, Margot List and her husband Giacomo DeFeo of
Milan, Italy and great-grandson Ottavio; Alexandra List of San Francisco, CA; and
Sabrina List of Boston, MA. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, George Douglas,
her sister-in-law, Ann Heltzman and husband Gerard, three nephews, and four
nieces.
There will be a service of remembrance on March 21 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church, 414 East Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090, where her interment will
follow in St. Paul's Church Garth.
