Stewart T. Crane Jr.
Stewart Thompson Crane Jr. of Westfield NJ passed peacefully on Saturday May 9, 2020. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 29, 1932 as the second child of Stewart Thompson Crane Sr. and Elise Terry Crane. He was raised mostly in Cranford NJ and graduated from Cranford High.
Stew, as he was known to his friends & family, joined and served in the Navy during the Korean War. During this time, he met the love of his life Merrilyn Grosvenor and they married in 1960. This past March, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they raised three children Linda, Jeffrey & Dean in Westfield NJ.
Stew was a hard-working man who owned his own delivery dairy business as a Milkman for 38 years serving local residents and businesses in the surrounding towns. He was also involved in and coached many Westfield youth sports that his sons were part of. Stew will be remembered for the things he loved most: his family, sports and his dogs.
After retiring from the Dairy business, Stew continued to work serving others. He became involved with the Westfield/Mountainside Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Town of Westfield's Recreation Department where he was a driver for both of their Senior Transportation programs.
Stewart is survived by his wife Merrilyn G Crane, his children: Linda Crane Johnson and her daughter Amber Crane; son Jeffrey S Crane (of Red Hook NY) and wife Mary Ann Johnson and their daughters Caitlin & Hanlon Crane; son Dean B Crane (of Blacksburg Va.) and wife Katherine Baker and their children Kenna Jewell & husband John, Paige Crane, Emily Crane and Rob Baker and wife Jessica and their children Asher & Hudson. He also leaves a sister Doris Shepson of Florida along with many nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
Stewart was laid to rest on May 13, 2020 in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Westfield Rescue Squad.
