Obituary for Mr. Stanley J. Brois
March 22, 1931 - February 19, 2020
Cranford, New Jersey | Age 88

Stanley J. Brois, 88, of Cranford, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
Born in Bronx, NY, Stan was the youngest of eight children who helped in his family grocery store while growing up and then was awarded a football scholarship at Fordham University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He played as a right guard under the leadership of Coach Vince Lombardi who referred to him as the "Bronx Bomber". Stan also obtained his Master's degree in Chemistry from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Chicago and worked for 35 years at Exxon retiring from there as a Chemist. During his career, Stan worked at Exxon's Linden and Clinton, NJ; Houston, TX; and Abingdon, England locations and wrote 110 patents for many products most notably, Exxon's Uniflo/Superflo product.
While getting his education, Stan also served in the US Airforce as a Captain during the Korean War from 1952 to 1957. He was stationed in the South Pacific and worked as a scientist testing nuclear bombs in connection with Operation Redwing. Stan married Theresa Jean Figler in 1957 and soon moved to New Jersey to start his career and to raise a family. He had three children who survive him: Victoria Mary married to John Pavlovsky, Thomas Edward married to Lulu, and Daniel William married to Laura Macey. He also has two grandchildren, Sarah Anne Brois and Daniel James Brois.
After retiring, Stan started a new chapter of his life and became an Adjunct Professor at NJIT where he developed a Medicinal Chemistry class and taught other graduate level chemistry courses at this institution. He was a popular instructor among the students who nominated him for a teaching award during his tenure.
Stan was passionate about reading, organic chemistry, watching the History Channel and his Christian faith. Stan became a new creation in Christ and attended Mountainside Gospel church and bible studies. He also had a great love for nature and animals especially Pugs and was the dog father to Pugs: Peppy, Chumley, Maggie, Max and most dearly Rufus, his best buddy, as well as our sweets mutts: Lulu, Goldie and Jack. Stan enjoyed watching the birds, hummingbirds and deer that frequented the yard, and he had a green thumb growing blue spruce and white birch trees, rose bushes, fruit trees, and grapes. He also used the grapes that he grew in making his own wine as a hobby.
Stan was well-loved and respected by his family, friends, co-workers, and students and was a humble man who preferred being called "Big Stash" instead of Dr. Brois. He would always make time for his family, was happy to whip up a breakfast of pancakes if you stopped by the house and would take off a whole week from work to make the most amazing homemade Thanksgiving dinner as well as his "mile-high lemon meringue pie" and "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink soup". We will miss our father dearly and will always remember him in our hearts.
