Shizue Shimbo Davis, 53, of Cranford, died Friday February 15, 2013, at her residence, after a lengthy illness. A memorial service and luncheon will be held at 12:30PM, Wednesday, February 20th at The Westwood at 438 North Avenue, Garwood, New Jersey 07027; phone: 908-789-0808. Beloved wife, mother and daughter; born in Sendai, Japan on10-2-59, Shizue lived with her parents Chieko and Osamu Shimbo in Tokyo until moving to London, England at the age of 5; Ottawa, Canada at 6 and settling into the Washington, D.C. in 1966. She attended Penn State University where she earned a BSEE and Masters of Engineering Science and met her husband Matthew. Upon graduating Shizue was employed at the RCA David Sarnoff Research Center in Princeton and then went on to become a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories before leaving to pursue opportunities in consulting and was a successful entrepreneur. Mrs. Davis has resided in Cranford, NJ since 1989 where she raised her son (Harrison, 23) and daughter (Olivia, 16). A violinist with the Summit Symphony, Shizue also actively supported a number of youth music organizations, most recently the Northern New Jersey Youth Orchestra. She loved nature and was fascinated with mushrooms, edible plants and the Adirondack wilderness. She is survived by her Mother, husband, children, brother: Dr. Daichi Shimbo and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and grand nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shizue's name to the Gerson Institute, P.O. Box 161358, San Diego, CA 92176.
