Shirley (Nee Marden) Payne

Shirley Marden Payne,95, of Westfield and Mountainside passed away peacefully on Thursday November 2nd at Brighton Gardens of Mountainside.
Shirley was born on May 27, 1922 in Westfield. She attended Westfield schools and graduated from Westfield High School. She then went on to receive a degree in Textile Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn New York.
Shirley was a lifelong member of her beloved First United Methodist Church of Westfield. She was also a member of the Westfield Women's Club and the Westfield Art Association.
Shirley worked for the Jack Valentine Company of New York City creating textile designs.
Her love and passion was for her family and art. She painted in oils and watercolor and taught classes in watercolor in her home and at the Westfield YMCA.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband David Chalmers Payne and two sons,
Mark Alexander Payne and David Bradford Payne.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Cynthia Howell and son in law Randy Howell and her grandchildren Jennifer Pfeffer and her husband Brad Pfeffer and Drew Howell and his wife Heather Howell and a great grandson Grant Thomas Howell.
There will be a visitation today, Thursday November 9, 2017 from 11AM until 12 Noon, at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St. Westfield. Graveside services will follow at 12:15 PM Thursday, at Fairview Cemetery. To leave condolences, please go to: www.grayfuneralhomes.com.
