Ruth S. Freist

Ruth S. (Larsen) Freist, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Mrs. Freist was born in Scotch Plains, daughter of the late Ole and Thora Larsen. She graduated Scotch Plains High School in 1945. She resided in Springfield for 42 years, prior to moving to Woodbridge in 2009. Prior to her retirement in 1985 she was employed as a supervisor for New York Telephone in New York City. Ruth was predeceased by her husband William of 46 years in 1998, her sister, Sofie Olsen and brother, Olaf Larsen. She is survived by her sisters Elizabeth Howarth of Scotch Plains, and Lillian Thorsen of Iselin. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews for her sense of humor and making us laugh. Visitation and a celebration of her life will take place Monday, August 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Gray's Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 19 at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
