Robert J. Hamilton

Robert J. Hamilton III passed away on February 9, 2015 at the home of his beloved daughter, Sandra, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on
the 8th day of June, 1927 to Mary (Pilus) and Robert J. Hamilton II in Philadelphia, PA, where his father became an accomplished boxer and was later inducted into the hall of fame. Robert moved to NJ with his family when he and his brother were children. He was also predeceased by his brother Alvin.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and went on to marry Ernestine Szorocsin on November 25th, 1950 and were blessed to celebrate 54 years of marriage before her leaving to be with the Lord in 2004.
He joined the Roselle Police Department in 1952 where he dedicated 33 years of
loyal service to his community. He proudly achieved the rank of Captain before retiring in 1985. He went on to start his own private investigations firm where he worked for ten years.

Robert was the proud owner of Hamilton's Tavern in Roselle, NJ which he purchased in 1995 where he was lovingly known as "Capt" by everyone. On any given day, he could be found talking, or, as we all know, "yelling" about his New York Giants and Yankees which were his favorite sports teams. He was well know for his love of dogs which included several Great Danes and Bulldogs , most especially his co-pilots ….........Bubba, Butch and Max.

Robert was the loving father of four children, Robert J. Hamilton IV (who predeceased his dad in 1994), who married JoAnn (Likowski) and have two children, Robert J. Hamilton V and (Bree Walker) of CA, and Edward J. Hamilton and (Anna Zuena) of NJ. Sandra J. Hamilton who resides in Linden and was the faithful caretaker for her father. Michael J. Hamilton who married Renee (Mondel) and have three children, Michael J. Hamilton, Alison Hamilton, and Stefanie Hamilton who married Will Jackson all residing in NC. Jody A. Hamilton who married Kenneth Hudak of the Roselle Fire Department and they reside in Barnegat, NJ. Survived by his good friend Father John Dowling.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm at the Gray Memorial Funeral Home in Cranford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Friday at St. Joseph The Carpenter Church in Roselle. Entombment will follow at Woodbridge Memorial. Go to grayfuneralhomes.com for on line condolences.
