Phyllis Pecka passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020 at her home in Westfield, NJ. She was 99 years old.
Born on a dairy farm in Clarkfield, Minnesota, Phyllis spent the first 16 years of her life without electricity or indoor plumbing. Shortly after graduating at the top of her high school class, Phyllis ventured to Minneapolis, "the big city", for employment.
In the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, Phyllis enlisted in the Marine Corps. She served honorably at Cherry Point, NC where she met and married fellow Marine, Robert Pecka.
After the war, they at first settled in the suburbs of Chicago, then relocated several times before finally coming to Westfield in 1962
Phyllis was active in The Presbyterian Church, The PTA, and The Westfield Public Library. Through the years, she volunteered for numerous causes and organizations.
She will be remembered as a loving and kind friend, neighbor, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother, as a gracious hostess, excellent cook, and baker.
A private service was held at Fairview Cemetery where she now rests beside her loving husband who pre-deceased her in 2000. Phyllis also had a daughter, Joan, who died in 1963.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Paul, who currently resides in Westfield, NJ, and two grandsons, Carl of Austin, TX and Sam of Los Angeles, CA.
