Michael Angelo Davino, 78, of Westfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mike devoted his life to the people who mattered most — his family, his friends, and the educators, players, coaches, and leaders he taught and mentored across four decades in public education.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was the steady presence his family relied on and took comfort in. He is survived by his wife Paula; daughters Lauren and Jenna; sons-in-law Vincent and Cary; grandchildren Lainey, Spencer, and Phoebe; and sister Johanna and brother-in-law John. As an educator, principal, and superintendent, Mike shaped lives through a network of schools and institutions — PS 4, Port Richmond, Petrides, and Wagner College on Staten Island, and ultimately the Springfield, NJ School District, where he served as Superintendent. In classrooms, on playing fields, and in boardrooms, people learned far more than curriculum, leadership and strategy. They learned character. Countless former students and colleagues carry his lessons with them.As a leader and friend, Mike Davino was known for strength, compassion, and generosity — his steady hand, his open door, his ability to bring out the best in others. Those who worked alongside him knew they were in the presence of someone truly exceptional. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Davino of Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn.
Michael's visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9PM Friday March 27th at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, NJ.
