Maria I Diaz

December 22, 1938 — July 5, 2025

Union, NJ and Manalapan, NJ

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Maria I. Diaz, who departed this life, on July 5, 2025, reuniting with her Creator after a long and courageous journey with vascular dementia and heart disease.

Born on December 22, 1938, in Havana, Cuba, she was the cherished daughter of Enrique, Sr. and Francisca (Quica) Blasco. She shared a beautiful bond with her identical twin sister, Maria (Conchi), and held treasured memories of her late brother Enrique, Jr. who passed away tragically at the young age of 21. Maria received her education at St. George's School in Havana, Cuba, where she learned English, a skill that would prove invaluable when she made the brave decision to leave her homeland and emigrate to the United States, escaping the grip of the communist regime. Like many other Cuban exiles, she carried with her strength, dignity, and an unwavering work ethic.

A true example of resilience and determination, she worked tirelessly throughout her life, continuing to do so up until three years ago. She worked as a Sales Associate at Cavalier Logistics in Mountainside, NJ for 33 years and made many close friendships throughout her career with both colleagues and clients alike. Also, for many years, she worked as a freelance Spanish translator for various agencies helping translate for many court cases. In her spare time, she loved to travel especially to Miami, Florida to visit her family, go to Atlantic City, NJ or the Poconos, PA, and spend time at her daughter's house especially playing with her granddaughter.

Maria is survived by her devoted daughter, Diana Diaz-Lieberman, loving son-in-law Scott Lieberman, and her granddaughter, Sabrina Lieberman, who she adored from the moment she was born. She also leaves behind her beloved family in Miami, including her sister, Maria (Conchi) Villanueva, brother-in-law Carlos (Villa) Villanueva, Sr., and her nephew Carlos Villanueva, Jr. as well as Carlos' son, Gabriel Villanueva.

Her family and loved ones will remember her for her tenacity, generous heart, and enduring faith. May her soul rest in peace and her memory be a blessing to all who knew her and loved her.

Maria’s visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM Wednesday July 9th, at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford. Her funeral mass and burial will be private. Please go to: www.grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences.
