Leigh Hoffman Mauney

March 24, 1924 — August 15, 2016

Leigh Mauney of Mountainside, NJ was 92 (possibly 95 we're told) when passing away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ. She was born Ottilie Hoffmann in Woodhaven, Jamaica Queens NY, where she enjoyed growing up acting and singing in local Community Theatre and sang in her Episcopal Church Choir. She cherished her Parents, absolutely adoring her loving Mother, and dearly loved her fluffy dog Bootsy. She then shared a wonderful life for over 50 years with the love of her life David (also known as "Jiggs" back in South Carolina). When they met she was at a voice lesson in NYC singing "Out of My Dreams and Into Your Arms" from "Oklahoma". Dave rang the doorbell and upon answering it, Mom said their eyes met and that was it, They fell in love at first sight, and he proposed to her that day...
She was a Broadway Show Singer/Actress with the singing voice of an Angel, having been in 5 Broadway Shows. She attended the College of Music in New York for her singing and acting abilities, while singing on Radio Programs and making several Operatic Vocal Recordings, which displayed her absolutely amazing vocal talent. Leigh also possessed tremendous artistic talent, working at the "Little Studio", a Famous Art Gallery in NYC where young Artists could display their Paintings. She and David moved to Long Island where she was Soloist for her Church, and also began working in Real Estate. They then moved to New Jersey when her Husband's job necessitated the move, and became a successful Real Estate Broker having her own Agency.
Leigh and her Daughter, who was her Caregiver for 15 yrs, enjoyed the most wonderful Mother and Daughter companionship for over 50 years... Leigh was always such a huge part of her daughter's life, enjoying her fascination with design, and loved that she followed in her musical footsteps as a singer/guitarist/songwriter. Her Son works in finance and resides with his family down south.
Leigh just loved all our beloved Dogs, and how many Dogs and Cats we Rescued as well ! She adored her rescue Dachsund , rescue Border Collie and puppy, her beautiful Samoyed, rescue Chow Chow, and her best friend in all her world her dear Malamute. And then there were all our adoring rescue kitties, a Turkish Angora, Maine Coon, and showing up at our back door our rescue Gray Tabby. And then there were all Our Golden Retrievers, so that when retiring Leigh just lived for walking her dogs in the Park near her home. Her picture even made the front page of a local paper one autumn with our older first golden girl. She treasured her walks in the Park with her daughter walking their second golden who she loved dearly. Most recently, our brother sister Golden Retrieivers along with a Duck Toller, sadly lost the brother boy golden a few months after she passed. While writing about how we loved our canine family, l almost can't believe how much more Mom is missed each passing day...
Leigh is interred in South Carolina with her beloved Husband David. Our Family's Deepest Gratitude to our Funeral Directors here and in South Carolina. They were absolutely wonderful going way beyond the call of duty with their continual help and kindness, as well as their comfort and understanding during our time of sorrow.
