John A. "Chick" Miller, 94, a lifelong resident of Westfield, passed away at his home, early on Monday November 16, 2020. He was the son of the late Adam and Eleanor (nee Probasco) Miller. Chick was a 1943 graduate of Westfield High School, where he lettered in sports, especially baseball. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox, but was soon drafted into the US Army during World War II, where he served in Italy. Chick was retired from the US Postal Service, working in the Westfield Post Office, and later the Mountainside Post Office, where he was the acting supervisor. Following retirement Chick worked as a school crossing guard for more than 20 years on North Avenue and Tuttle Parkway. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Westfield, the Westfield Historical Society's 300 Club, the Martin Wallberg Post #3 of the American Legion, Westfield, and the Mountainside Rotary Club. An avid sports fan, Chick competed in the Senior Olympics where he played first base on the baseball team. He is survived by his wife Marjorie Jane (nee Morton) Miller, daughters: Carol Sica and husband Steven, Nancy Johnson and husband Raymond, son: John A. Miller and wife Debra, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Chick's visitation will begin at 10AM Friday November 20, 2020, at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad Street, Westfield, where his funeral service will follow at 11:00AM Friday. Interment with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
