John L. Kyle

John Kyle, 56, of Maplewood and Cranford John Kyle passed away on June 3, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a long time resident of Maplewood and Cranford, NJ. John was the son of the late James G. and Barbara (nee Harris) Kyle and grew up in Maplewood NJ where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1974. He later attended Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh Pa. John cherished his time with and was most proud of his two children, Gordon and Dana. He was a calm and constant presence full of unconditional love and support. John led his children by example, teaching them respect and dignity by being a loving and dedicated father and husband to Diane (nee Bruno) Kyle.. He was a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand, a good listener and a good man. For 36 years, John was a dispatcher/office manager for United Livery in Maplewood. He was dedicated to his job, his family and was a loyal friend. Also surviving him are his devoted siblings; brother James and sister-in-law Debra, his brother Jeffrey and sister-in-law Helen, his sister Elizabeth Jane Kyle Lurie and brother-in-law Robert Lurie. His nephews, James, Ben, Jeffrey, Brian and niece Sarah and great nephews and nieces, Tyler, Julianna, Madeline & Ella, his Uncle John D. Kyle and Luci Kyle, and cousins, Rick Wagstaff, Amy Kyle Rose, Susie Kyle Nichols, Bobby Kyle Monacella and many other relatives, in-laws and friends who cherished his companionship, love and counsel. They will all miss him dearly. His grandparents Irwin and Amy Kyle and Asa and Otillie Harris predeceased him. John lived a simple life, enjoying simple pleasures. He enjoyed growing in Maplewood where he was well known and would wax poetic about his days in the small town where he made lifelong friends that he cherished greatly. He loved the many summers he spent at Camp Womposet in Connecticut and the time he shared with his family creating treasured memories going between the beach in Manasquan, NJ and The Saint Lawrence River in Thousand Islands, NY. He is remembered fondly for his love of family, his honesty and integrity, his sense of humor and infectious laugh, his intelligence, sensitivity, deep faith and his service to others. He never thought of himself. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday 7-9 pm. Gray Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave, Cranford NJ to celebrate John's life, followed by a mass on 10 am Friday St. Theresa's Church in Kenilworth with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
