John Howard

John Howard, 91, of Cranford, passed away on Friday March 4, 2016, at his residence.
John's visitation will be Tuesday (today) from 6:00-9:00PM March 8th, at Gray Funeral Directors,
12 Springfield Ave., Cranford, NJ (go to www.grayfuneralhomes.com). His funeral mass will be
celebrated on Wednesday March 9, 2016, at 9:30AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 40 Alden Street,
Cranford. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
Born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, John was the oldest of five brothers, all of whom previously
deceased him. He worked in the coal mines of Birmingham, England before emigrating to America in
1949. He and his family had been long time residents of Rahway, before moving to Cranford in 1995. He
was retired from the Elizabethtown Gas Company where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed Irish poetry, going for long walks, reading and gardening. He is the beloved husband of
Eileen (Tangney)) Howard, devoted father of Jeremiah Howard (Eileen), Mary Stern (Howard), Agnes
Terrill (John), Patrick W. Howard, Jill Gettinger (Clark), and beloved grandfather of seven.
