John Patrick Dolin Attorney, longtime Cranford resident, active with Rutgers University John Patrick Dolin, 65, of Cranford, died Saturday May 10, 2014, at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ. John's Life Celebration and Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM, Tuesday May 13, 2014, at Gray Funeral Directors, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford. Private services and burial will take place in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Born in Newark, NJ on August 31, 1948, to the late John H. and Phyllis Dolin, John practiced law in New Jersey for 40 years. He also had private practices in Madison, Roselle Park, Belleville and Cranford, NJ, and also served as a Municipal Prosecutor for Garwood, NJ and Roselle Park, NJ. More recently, he was a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey District XII Ethics Committee. John retired from the USAA Insurance Company, Florham Park, where he served as Senior Counsel. A graduate of Rutgers College in 1970, John went on to the Rutgers School of Law, Newark, graduating in 1973. He was a 1966 graduate of Cranford High School. John was the Chapter Justice at Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity (reactivated chapter at Rutgers University Law), and was a past President of the Rutgers Club of Cranford and recipient of that scholarship in 1966. He worked to endow the scholarship in later years. This is the longest "giving" scholarship at Rutgers A recipient of the Loyal Son of Rutgers Alumni Award, John was a member of the class of 1970, Rutgers College Reunion and Gift Giving Committee since his graduation. He served on the on the RAA Bylaws Committee. He was a member of the Echo Lake Country Club, Westfield, NJ , a past member of the Board of Trustees of Roselle Golf Club, Roselle, NJ, and a past member of the Roselle/Roselle Park Rotary. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart of 44 years, Linda Ann (nee Ross) Dolin, brother Brian, sister Donna Lee Dolin Snyder and her husband Jay, goddaughter and Niece Katharine Anne Dolin, brother-in-law Douglas Ross and his wife Eileen, sister-in-law Janet Ross Laycock and her husband Glenn, sister-in-law Virginia Ross Pecca and her husband Michael. Nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews: Heather, Russel, Kate Anne and Douglas Pentifallo; Kimberly, Mike, Ryan, Morgan and Kerri Lee; Kelly and Brian Cerbone; Matthew, Leila, Arianna and Malina Laycock; Kevin and Megan Laycock; Casey, Mike and Braden Gilmore and Mackenzie Ross.
