Joan D. Carson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Joan D. Carson passed away peacefully on December 11th, 2023, at age 91, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother and is now reunited with her deceased husband, Thomas Carson. Joan and Tom spent 54 years of marriage together, filled with love, laughter, traveling, and dancing.

Joan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 28, 1932. She attended Fort Hamilton High School and pursued a career for the New York Telephone Company before starting her family. In April 2011, Joan moved to the Cranford Towers, creating new friendships and memories with the Wednesday Morning Group. She had a deep faith and was an active member of Our Lady of Angels (Bay Ridge) and Saint Michael (Cranford) parishes. 

Joan is survived by her two daughters, Judy Pace (Nick) and Kathleen Spitzbarth (Tommy), and her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Pace, Taylor Petrowski (Anthony), Lyndsay Pace, Shea Spitzbarth, Dylan Spitzbarth, and Tyler Spitzbarth. “Mama” loved spending quality time with her family and proudly enjoyed watching them pursue their achievements. 

She always enjoyed watching her New York Mets, spending days with Brooklyn (dog), listening to music, and scratching lottery tickets. Her fantastic storytelling and witty sense of humor could put a smile on anyone's face. She truly was a “hoot”. 

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 10:00 AM at St. Michael Church (40 Alden St., Cranford, NJ 07016). 

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that all donations be made to the Center for Hope in Scotch Plains, NJ, in honor of Joan, who spent her last beautiful days of life there.
