Jessie R. Gray

Jessie B. Gray, 87, formerly of Westfield, born and raised in Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness, on Friday, May 24, 2019, at RWJ hospital In Somerville, NJ. Jessie is preceded in death by her husband,Of 63 years, Dr. Dean F.Gray.

As an accomplished pianist, Jessie received a BA in music from Indiana University, and studied at Flora Macdonald Conservatory in N.C. She continued graduate work in Pedagogy At The Westminster College, in Princeton.

Music was her passion and she wanted to share it with the world.

Jessie was a private piano instructor in Westfield for several years, and taught piano at the Vail-Deane School in Mountainside as well. In addition to the piano, Jessie performed periodically as an organist for several local churches,as well as for Gray Funeral Home.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her five children: Brion H. Gray, Deanna L. Gray-Miceli, Scott D. Gray, Lauren E. Gray-Gilford, and Kathryn Gray-Melvin; and seven grandchildren: Curtis D. Gilford, Andrew H. Gilford, Jessie Rose Melvin, Joseph D. Melvin, Charles G. Melvin, Deanna N. Miceli, and Isabella M. Gray.

Funeral services will be held at Gray's Funeral Home on Monday, June 3, 2019, with a viewing at 9am, with a funeral service at 10 am. Interment with her husband will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery.
