Jeanette Marie Smith

Jeanette M. Smith, nicknamed Jimmy, (nee Schneller) 89 of Cranford, NJ entered into eternal rest on Fri. Dec. 22, 2012. Jeanette's Life Celebration and visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9PM Wednesday December 26, 2012 at Gray's of Cranford, 12 Springfield Avenue (grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday December 27, 2012 at St. Theresa's Church, Kenilworth. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Jeanette was born on Oct. 28, 1923 in Buffalo, NY. She grew up in Bayonne, NJ where she enjoyed meeting friends after school and dancing at the local soda shop. She graduated from Bayonne High School in 1941 and was employed as a bookkeeper in the office of M. W. Kellogg & Co. of Jersey City. She also taught sewing classes at the Stretch & Sew in Woodbridge, NJ. Jeanette was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to Howard P. Smith Sr. for over 67 years and together they raised 5 children; Howard P. Jr, Janet, Marcelline, Mark and Sharon. Jeanette resided in Cranford, NJ for over 50 years. She loved her family with all her heart and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a woman with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. Jeanette had an interest in several different hobbies. She enjoyed reading, shopping, eating out, playing tennis, playing the organ, playing bridge and socializing with friends. Jeanette always looked forward to cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Yankees and the Giants, when they played on TV. She was also a loyal fan of the soap opera, All My Children. In addition to her husband, Howard, Jeanette is survived by her five children and their spouses: Howard Jr and Joan Smith, Janet and Dennis Hemenway, Marcelline and Bob Poirier, Mark and Jane Smith and Sharon and Daryl Little, her 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in her memory would be appreciated by her family.
