Jean E. Titus Apsley

Lifelong resident of Roselle Park

Jean Elizabeth Apsley passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015. Jean continued to witness her faith in the afterlife during her sudden illness. She was surrounded by her family when she passed on to her eternal home. A service of celebration will be held at the Community United Methodist Church in Roselle Park on Saturday, October 31 at 2 pm. Arrangements by Gray Funeral Directors of Cranford, A Life Celebration Home. To view a tribute of Jean's life, please go to: www.grayfuneralhomes.com.
Jean was born on Grant Avenue in Roselle Park to Franklin W. and Mildred Elder Titus. She graduated from Roselle Park High and then received her nursing degree from Elizabeth General Hospital in 1953. After marrying her sailor husband, Donald, she developed life-long friendships with other navy wives while living near Norfolk, Virginia. She retired from nursing after 30 years. She never hesitated to share the stories of the cross-country trips she and her husband took.
Jean was a third generation member of Community Church. She and her husband were instrumental in starting the Young Married Couples Club. Jean could be found cooking Rotary dinners, teaching Sunday School, serving on committees and helping with charity work through the Women's Society for Christian Service. As part of the Priscilla Circle, Jean spent her time making worship banners and crafts for the Christmas bazaars. She loved tending to her African violets, completing the Sunday crossword puzzle, and receiving letters. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jean was uplifted to know that her great-grandchild was also being raised in her church.
Jean lost her husband, Donald, in May 2015 after 62 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by their daughter, Donna J. Kulinski. She is survived by her son-in law Jan Kulinski, daughter Karen Welsch, grandchildren Stacy, Michelle, Charlene, Julie Ann, James, and Andrea. She had great-grandchildren Brandi, Colin, Brock, and Emma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's honor to the Community United Methodist Church, Roselle Park, memorial fund. A repast dinner will follow the service.
