James Althaus, longtime resident of Jersey City, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2025, at the age of 43. Born on December 4, 1981, in Bronx, New York, Jim spent his formative years in Hamilton, NY, and pursued higher education at Ithaca College. Most recently he led the Voice & Telecom Technology team at a large global asset management firm in New York City.
Jim is survived by his parents, James Althaus and Maureen Ghent; his son, Edison Althaus; his sisters, Christina Althaus and Nicole Walsh, and brother-in-law Kevin Walsh; his nieces, Kristen Meadows, Molly Walsh, and Annie Walsh; as well as his stepsisters, numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. Jim, a dedicated father, welcomed his son, Edison, on February 17, 2017, an event he frequently described as the most significant and treasured moment of his life. He was steadfast in his dedication to offering love, support, and guidance to his son, cultivating a bond that was both deep and enduring.
Jim had a strong relationship with his parents, siblings, cousins, and extended family members. He was known for his wit and humor, regularly making those around him laugh. Jim was passionate about sports and fitness, especially CrossFit. He took part in various road races, triathlons, Tough Mudders, and Spartan events, consistently aiming to surpass his previous achievements. His home showcased numerous race medals as a testament to his accomplishments. A fervent sports enthusiast, he cheered for the Titans, Yankees, and Ohio State Buckeyes, with ESPN often playing in the background at his place.
Jim passing leaves a profound void, yet his legacy endures through the countless lives he touched. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, whether as family, friend, colleague, or loved one.
Jim’s visitation will be held on Friday, June 27th, at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave, Cranford, NJ, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation at pcfcares.org or the Children’s Cancer Research Fund at childrenscancer.org.
