Hrisa Coukos, WESTFIELD, NJ – died Nov 7, 2012. Hrisa, née Stavros, was born on November 24, 1916 in Contantinople, Turkey. She and her family emmigrated from Turkey back to their original hometown of Eressos, Lesvos, Greece in 1922, and later immigrated to the United States in 1930, where they settled in Westfield, N.J. Hrisa graduated from Westfield High School. Hrisa was the daughter of the late Xenophon and Loukia Stavros, and the wife of the late Constantine J. Coukos, to whom she married in 1937. She was the sister of the late Marius Stavers of Scotch Plains and the late 2Lt. Elefterios Stavros, Purple Heart recipient and victim of WWII. Hrisa was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She was a beautiful woman with a sense of style and she enjoyed designing her own clothes. She is survived by her loving daughter, Joan Coukos Todd, and son-in-law James M. Todd, and many cousins who also emmigrated from Lesvos. The family is deeply appreciative of Irina Gvinianidze, and her wonderful, generous and compassionate care giving. Friends may call Sunday, Nov. 11 from 4-8 pm at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad Street, Westfield, and a Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield.
