Gabor "Gabe" Kardos, 72
Gabor "Gabe" Kardos, 72, resident of Mountainside, known locally as the "Poem & Pen Man", passed away on April 28, 2018.
Born in Hungary in 1945, he moved to the US in 1957. He served in the US Army in the 24th Infantry Division. Gabe married his high school sweetheart, Sharyn (neé Hawkins), whom he met in 1961; they were together for 57 crazy, loving years.
Gabe and his wife owned GSK, Ltd. in Orange, NJ. After retiring, he was a passionate and proud volunteer, dividing his time between the Mental Health Association of Montclair, the Community FoodBank of Hillside, and the ASPCA of Newark for many years.
Among family and friends, Gabe was well known for his quick wit, always having a joke at the ready, and his love of gift giving.
He is survived by his wife Sharyn, his two favorite daughters, Courtney Foley (Brian) of Sparta, NJ and Jaime Openshaw (Jonathan) of Cranford, NJ, one granddaughter, Charlotte Mae Foley, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Many, many thanks to Susan from Heart Success and Gabe's visiting nurse, Betsy, of Prompt Care.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated and welcomed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
