Noticefor Frederick J. Griffin:

Born in Newark,Mr. Griffin moved to Westfield in 1951. He was graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor Science degree in Commerce and Finance. After four years' service in the United States Army during World War II, where he attained the rank ofCaptain, he joined New Jersey Bell in 1946. Over the next 39 years, Mr. Griffin held a number of management positions in the Commercial and Public Relations departments.

In 1965, he was made Assistant Vice-president and Department Head of Public Relations. In this capacity, he supervised the information furnished to the general public concerning theTelephone Company through advertising, community relations, movies, exhibits, the company's speakers bureau, and bill inserts such as Tel-News.

Mr. Griffin formerly served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Essex and West HudsonCounties, the Visiting Nurse Association of the Oranges, the Westfield Tennis Club, and the Westfield Glee Club. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Advertising Club of New Jersey, of which he was
president in1969-70.

Mr. Griffin was a member of the Westfield Old Guard, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Westfield TennisClub and the Oceans Golf and Racquet Club of Daytona Beach Shores, FL. An avid tennis player all his life, Mr.Griffin played on teams representing Barringer High School,Bucknell University,the US Army team of Fort DuPont, DE, the Oceans Racquet Club,the East OrangeTennis Club, and the Westfield Tennis Club.

Mr. Griffin was active in Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as president of the Board of Trustees and Choir Director.

Surviving are a son, Glenn, a daughter, Nancy G. Anderson, and two grandchildren.
