Francesco Saverio Arena, age 90, of Union, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born November 6, 1935, in Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Anna Maria Arena (nee D’Amico). He later immigrated to the United States, where he built a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and devotion to family.
Mr. Arena was a respected business owner of Bel Arte Commercial Woodwork and a skilled craftsman. He was known for his extreme kindness, generosity, humor, and quiet strength.
“Sam,”as many called him, enjoyed dancing in his younger years, gardening, cooking, and trips to Atlantic City later on. He found great meaning in his Catholic faith and happiness caring for animals and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Marthalou “Cookie”; his daughter, Anne Marie; son, Frankie Jr and wife Irene; his cherished grandchildren, John, Giuliana, Vanessa, and Daniella who were the light of his life; his siblings, Fortunato Arena, Pasquale Arena, Teresa Arena and Catherine Reda; and many beloved nieces and nephews . He was predeceased by his brother, Dottore Luigi Arena.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gray & Pescitelli Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 12 Springfield Ave, Cranford.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 11:30 AM atSt. Helen’s Catholic Church, 1600 Rahway Ave, Westfield.
