OBITUARY Ella Mildred Semple Ella Mildred (Hempel) Semple, fondly known as "Millicent" went to her heavenly home on Palm Sunday, April 13th, 2014. Millicent had been a resident of Cranford since 1955. Millicent was born in Linden, New Jersey on September 3, 1924, the 7th of 8 children born to August and Bertha (Berwing) Hempel. She was predeceased by her Parents, Brothers: Oscar, Charles, August, Otto and Emil, Sisters: Martha and Edith, Infant Daughter, Amy Susannah Louise, and Grandson, Charles Bryan Semple. Millicent is survived by her Husband of almost 62 years, Edward L. Semple, Jr., Children: Georgiann S. Hopkins (Michael), Charles E. (Barbara), August K. (Susan) and Holly (Han Sook) Chisholm (Thomas), Seven Grandchildren: Daniel W. Semple (Andrea), Jeremy M. Hopkins, Amy B. Semple, A. Karl Semple, Katherine L. Semple, Bryan C. Semple, and Abigail G. Semple, and Three Great-Grandchildren: Landon D. Semple, Audrey M. Semple-Breslin, and Tyler W. Semple, and several dearly loved Nieces and Nephews. Millicent attended Linden High School. During World War II, she worked for General Motors in Linden as a "Rosie the Riveter". She met Edward in Miami, Florida while vacationing with her Sister, Edith and they were married on August 2, 1952. As a member of the meatcutters, Millicent worked in the A&P in Westfield up until the birth of her first child. She left her work outside the home to raise her family. Her home was a nurturing, fun-loving place. Once her children were grown, Millicent worked as a "companion" to several ladies in the Cranford Community. Millicent was an animal-lover. She was a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains for many years. Her involvement included the "Golden Lights" Choir and the "Young at Heart" group. A Life Celebration for Millicent will be held at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford on Monday, April 21st at Noon.
