Doris Elaine Weichert (nee Werkheiser)Cranford and Long Beach Township NJ – Doris Elaine Weichert, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of love of family and faith.
Born in 1933 and raised in Bloomfield, Doris was a 1951 graduate of Bloomfield High School. She met the love of her life, David Arnold Weichert, while working for the Town of Bloomfield. After a few early years in Flemington, they settled in Cranford, where they raised two sons, David Thomas and Douglas. She was active in the Cranford United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
For 68 wonderful years, she and Dave shared their lives together and family was priority. They began traveling to LBI in the mid 1950’s and purchased a home in Beach Haven Terrace and shared her love of the beach, ocean and swimming, and the family has enjoyed LBI ever since! She took her sons out in the bay waterskiing and handled the boat like a seasoned Captain. Doris was devoted to her family and cherished every moment with loved ones, especially her two grandchildren, David Christopher and Scott who also loved all the beach time they spent with her. They relocated full-time to Long Beach Township in 2014, where they served as volunteer ushers at the Surflight Theater.
A lifelong lover of baseball and sports, especially the NY Yankees, she also found joy with family at the beach, boating, fishing and crabbing, tending to the garden with fresh veggies and spending time with family and friends. Her smile and kind spirit touched many.
Doris was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Dave and her parents Harold & Katherine Werkheiser. She is survived by her sons, David Thomas (Arlene) and Douglas, and her grandchildren, David Christopher and Scott. She will be deeply missed but remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.Visitation will be at Gray's Funeral Home on Friday January 2 from 2 - 4 pm, with a brief service at 4 pm. She will be reunited with her husband and parents in a family plot in Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield on Saturday, January 3rd.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Cranford United Methodist Church or the First United Methodist Church of Beach Haven Terrace in her honor.
