Doris Rose Riccardi, 90, of Mountainside, NJ died on Saturday December 15, 2018, at the Spring Grove Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New Providence. Born in Pittston, PA to the late George and Jessie (Renfer) Dando, she discovered music early in life and played the piano at many school functions and joined the band as well. Occasionally she sang on the radio with her brother Allan.As a teenager, Doris moved to Newark, where she graduated from Barringer High School. She was a Supervisor with The Prudential Insurance Company. Doris enjoyed singing and sang in several church choirs including the former Mountainside Gospel Chapel, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Springfield. Doris loved attending Bible Study Groups and later became a member at Calvary Lutheran Church in Cranford. She and her late husband Anthony "Tony" Riccardi were co-founders of the Mountainside Association of Retirees (MAR), where Doris served as a past president. Together they set up many programs and trips for the members including a memorable trip to the United Nations (UN) in New York. Doris and Tony also enjoyed travelling throughout Italy, Spain, and Portugal. They especially loved cruising where people would clear the floor to watch them dance.While living at Brighton Gardens of Mountaiside for the past 6 years, Doris was known for her "decorative walker". She changed it according to the seasons and holidays bringing a smile to many a resident. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Anthony "Tony" in 2012, and is survived by her daughter: Karen R. Freudenberger and her husband Henry of Berkeley Heights, a son: Gregg Parker of Tabernacle, NJ, 4 grandchildren: Krista Saturnia and her husband Kurt, Lori Freudenberger and her fiancé Andy Bartho, Keith Freudenberger and his wife Laura Cervino, Matthew Freudenberger, 4 great grandchildren: Avery, Ryan, Henry, Chloe, and a brother: Allan Dando of Phoenix, AZ. Family services followed by interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Memorial services are being planned for March of 2019.
