Service is on Sunday for retired Roselle Park police sergeant who gave of his time and repairman talents to Community United Methodist Church.
Donald Albert Apsley, 83, of Roselle Park, NJ, passed away on April 30, 2015. The service of celebration for Don's life will be held on Sunday, May 7, at 2:30 pm at the Community United Methodist Church, Chestnut Street, Roselle Park. Donald was born in Elizabeth, NJ, to Joseph and Lottye Apsley. After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Sarasota. He loved working on the engines. Donald retired as a sergeant in the Roselle Park Police Department after 30 years of service. He embraced the computer age and enjoyed travelling the country. He loved to refinish furniture. He and his wife, Jean, were the third-generation to be married at Community Church, and he was thrilled that his great-grandchild became the sixth generation of his church. In his spare time, he enjoyed repairing the church building and serving on multiple committees. Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean E. Titus Apsley, and was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna J. Kulinski.
He is also survived by his brother, J.Carl Apsley; daughter, Karen Welsch; son-law Jan Kulinski; six grandchildren, Stacy, Michelle, Charlene, Julie Ann, James, and Andrea; four great-grandchildren, Brandi, Colin, Brock, and Emma. Donations may be made in Donald's memory to the Community United Methodist Church's Memorial Fund.
