David Arnold Weichert, 94, of Cranford, and Long Beach Township, NJ, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and dedicated engineer, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith and love of family and baseball.
Born in 1930, raised in Bloomfield and a graduate of Bloomfield High School, David was a proud 1952 graduate of Union College in Schenectady NY, majoring in Civil Engineering. He served in the Korean War and later achieved his master's from New York University in Civil Engineering.
David began his career in Engineering for the Township of Bloomfield, where he met the love of his life, Doris. He served as the Township Engineer for Verona. After a few early years in Flemington, they settled in Cranford, where they raised their two sons, David Thomas and Douglas. He served as scoutmaster for Troop 75 and as head of the Board of Trustees for Cranford United Methodist Church. He had a long and successful career in engineering and retired from Montgomery Watson.
For 68 wonderful years, he and Doris shared their life. David was a devoted family man who cherished every moment with his loved ones, especially his two grandchildren, David Christopher and Scott. They relocated full-time to Long Beach Township in 2014.
A lifelong lover of baseball, especially the NY Baseball Giants and the NY Yankees, he found joy in the simple pleasures—sailing his Sunfish, watching and scoring a baseball game, taking walks to the beach. His gentle spirit touched all who knew him.
David is survived by his wife, Doris; his sons, David Thomas (Arlene) and Douglas; his grandchildren, David Christopher and Scott. He will be deeply missed but remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
Visitation will be at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford on Sunday April 6th from 2 - 4 pm, followed by a funeral service at 4 pm. He will be reunited with his parents in a family plot in Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield at 11:00AM Monday April 7, 2025.
