Charlotte Fenter Swinton, age 90, a lifelong resident of Cranford, passed away on Nov. 16, 2012. Born in Bayonne, NJ, she came to Cranford in 1924. Visitation is at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, North and Forest Avenues, Cranford at 11 am Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Internment will be in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Please go to grayfuneralhomes.com for on line condolences. Mrs. Swinton was a graduate of Cranford High School, class of 1940. At age 60 she matriculated at Union County College, Cranford and graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts and held membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Society. Before marriage, she was employed by Prudential Insurance in Newark. Mrs. Swinton was past president of Wednesday Morning Club, past president of the Garden Club of Cranford, a member of Cranford Historical Society, Hanson Park Conservancy, Friends of Cranford Public Library, Morris Area Exxon Annuitants Club and the Overseas Women's Club, London, England. She also had memberships in the Cranford Dramatic Club, Cranford Creative Arts Group, Cranford Swim Club, the Trinity Church Altar Guild and Flower Guild, the now-defunct Board of the Visiting Nurse Assn. of Cranford and Colony Club and was a volunteer for Mobile Meals of Westfield and Best Friend Dog and Animal Adoption Org. Mrs. Swinton had many interests, notably gardening, the study groups of WMC, cruises and day trips to the Jersey shore. Favorite interludes in her life were three years in London, England and three months in Paris, France. She and her family were able to travel extensively. In addition to her parents, Frank and Charlotte (Hoch) Fenter, Mrs. Swinton was predeceased by her husband, Daniel (2002); her brother, Frank Jr. and her sister Winifred. She is survived by her son, Daniel Scott Swinton (wife Audrey), Linden and her daughters Dr. Gale Swiontkowski, Pawling, NY; Susan Robinson (husband Brayton), Bucks County, PA and Amy Lawrence (husband James), Avenel. Also her grandchildren William and Charles Schricker, Samuel and Elizabeth Swinton, David Lawrence and Brittin Robinson.
