Charles W. Bing, Sr., 86, of Westfield, NJ died December 28, 2013 with his family by his side. Charlie was born in Newark and raised his family in Irvington and Westfield. He earned an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University and a Masters of Science at NJIT. He started his engineering career at Weston in Newark. He retired in 1997 from Singer Kearfott after working for them for many years as manger of their research model shop with a focus on NASA projects. . While at Singer Kearfott he was instrumental in the design of the guidance system of the first Gemini space capsule. This past Thanksgiving, he celebrated 60 years of marriage to Honor M. They enjoyed their children and grandchildren, traveling, and various pets. He was the beloved father of his children, Honor of Bridgewater (Doug Swimmer). He was predeceased by his sons Charles W., Jr, and Christopher M. He is also survived by two grandsons; Jacob Swimmer of Bridgewater, and Eric Bing of Clark. A viewing and life celebration will be held at Gray Funeral Home, Westfield on Tuesday, December 31 from 2-6. Burial services will take place at Gray's on Thursday, January 2nd at 11A.
