Barbara B. Lewis, 83, of Westfield, died peacefully Monday January 28, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Lewis had been very active in the community, and was an avid gardener. A member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mrs. Lewis was a vestryperson, and had served as the clerk of the church vestry. A lay eucharistic minister, Barbara was also a member of the St. Paul's Church Altar Guild for more than 35 years. Mrs. Lewis was a past volunteer at The Childrens Specialized Hospital, Mountainside, and the Westfield Day Care Center. She was a past board member of The Garden Club of Westfield, and the Youth and Family Counseling Service. Mrs. Lewis also volunteered with The Westfield Service League, and ran the "TS" (Thrift Shop). Barbara was a charter member of the Harding Street Bridge Club in Westfield. Born in Troy, New York, the daughter of the late Herbert and Doris Cockburn Betham, Mrs. Lewis was a graduate of Wells College, Aurora, NY. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, George A. Lewis, daughter: Amy B. Lewis of Cranford, son: Peter W. Lewis and his wife Kathi of Hollis, NH, and granddaughter Jessica Lewis, of Merrimack, NH. Barbara's funeral services will begin at 11:00AM Monday February 4, 2013, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Westfield, with interment to follow in The Garth.
