Alan Bruce Conlin Jr. 95, a 60 resident of Westfield, died Saturday December 29, 2018, at the Care One Center in Wall Twp., NJ, where he had recently resided. Born in Plainfield, Bruce was the son of the late Alan Bruce Conlin Sr., an attorney and former Westfield town councilman, and Aileen Gary Conlin. A 1942 graduate of Westfield High School, and Lehigh University, School of Engineering, he was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. Bruce served in the US Army during World War II in the Signal Corps, where he saw action in Central Europe and the Rhineland with the 7th Army. Bruce later worked for the Johns-Manville Corporation, and GAF Corporation. After seven years of corporate engineering work, he joined the staff of the American Society of Engineering (ASME), where he worked with various legislative and government bodies in dealing with issues of science. He was a member of various advisory panels such as the National Conference of State Legislatures, the American Society of Public Administration, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Council of Engineering, and Scientific Society Executives. Bruce was a lifelong member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Wesfield, and was a founding member of the Martin Wallberg Post #3 of the American Legion, Westfield. He was a past Grand Marshal for the Annual Westfield Memorial Day Parade, and had been active with the Westfield Y's Mens Club, Westfield Little League Baseball, and the secretary of the town's 1976 Bicentennial Steering Committee. Bruce was also preceded in death by his wife: Ann Laing Conlin, his son: Alan Bruce "Chip" Conlin III, his sister: Peggy Norwine, and brother-in-law: Charles "Bud" Pulis. Bruce is survived by his daughter: Meredith O'Connor and her husband Joseph of Wall Twp., NJ, his son: Peter W. Conlin of Philadelphia, PA, the mother of his children: Mrs. Charlene Conlin, a step-son: Kenneth Brown and his wife Anna of Arizona, two grandchildren: Alan Hudson and wife Lil Blanco of Teaneck, NJ, Pamela Hudson of Wall Twp., NJ, three great grandchildren: Devin Ferrogine, Alana Hudson, Liam Hudson, two sisters: Barbara "Bobby" Pulis of Springfield, NJ, Nancy Van Dolman and husband John of MA, brother-in-law: David Norwine of Westfield and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services are scheduled for 10AM Friday January 11, 2019, at St. Paul Episcopal Church, Westfield, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
