Adolph "Al" Schwerdt, 89, of Whiting, NJ, died at his residence on Sunday March 15, 2015. Born in Paterson, NJ, Al was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army Infantry as an Anti-Tank Gun Crewman in Europe. Formerly of Garfield, NJ, he was retired from Montclair State University, where he was a custodial engineer. Al was the beloved husband of the late Josephine Schwerdt. They had been married for 61 years. He is survived by two sons: Robert James Schwerdt and his wife Donna of Roselle, NJ, Allen Peter Schwerdt of Toms River, NJ, daughter-in-law: Debra Schwerdt, two grandchildren: Lindsay Schwerdt and her fiancé Vinnie Aiello, Kevin McGrath, three great grandchildren: Caiden, Mackenzie, Alivia, and sister: Hazel Hamilton. Al's Life Celebration and visitation will be 6:00-9:00PM Wednesday March 18th, at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford, where his funeral service will begin at 11:00AM Thursday March 19, 2015. Interment with honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
